A simple and cheap remote control deadbolt is featured in this mod which produces a door lock mechanism. It is simply made a solenoid along with X10 keychain type remote appliance control and solid steel dowel.

The 110V solenoids taken from an icemaker are very strong and each has a hobby box made. The dowels are made to slide inside the holes by mounting small magnets. The lock is powered by a very long PC power cord in order to reach the wall socket.

Using this creation, the door can be unlocked via computer by integrating this into a home automation setup. This is made easy since X10 is used for control.
