Tagging a monument or building with custom messages is being featured in this project by setting up a homemade projection bombing system, as seen in the two images below. The design was typically being drawn on a building using a green laser but in this case, an iPhone manipulated by the user’s finger, is used to achieve the same effect. It was done out of trial and error but it works fine by aiming toward using a 2500 lumen projector.

Some of the components used to build this project are shown in the below image which include DC to AC Power inverter with 600 watts rating for use with the 2500 lumen projector. Hardwiring onto the battery will be required for any inverter larger than 1200W. For projecting anything bright enough to be viewed outdoors in the city, 2000 ANSI lumens is a recommended minimum value.
The preferred car to be used should have larger engines in order to keep the battery recharging at a faster rate and allows longer projection. One suitable vehicle are the cargo vans since they are cheap since they have bigger engines, can park in creative locations, and don’t drive around much. For the laptop, any brand can be used and will work when plugged into the digital projector.

In preparing the media, some parameters should be taken into account such as launching the files in full screen by keeping the lens of the projector covered until the files are up and running so only the content is the only thing people see. The edges of the projection should be hidden by using a black background whenever possible since it will blend unnoticeably into the wall. High contrast should be imposed by using true white and black values as much as possible since colors and grey tones often get lost in the ambient light. The surroundings must match by considering the lines, edges, curves, and surfaces all over the city because good projections will fit into the architecture they are projected on.

One sample location is shown in the image below wherein some factors were considered such as low ambient light, bright surface color, no glass, unobstructed view, distance, audience, available parking, security, and police.

During the setup of equipment, the projector is best placed on the vehicle roof to avoid a lot of shadows from pedestrians and automobile traffic, as shown in the image below. The VGA and power cable can run through the window from the projector. The inverter is placed on the dashboard on the same side as the car battery.
